Alpha Chi Omega History

Alpha Chi Omega was founded on October 15, 1885 at DePauw University in Indiana. The Dean of the School of Music wanted to help women form organization for women in the school of music. Seven women came together and formed Alpha Chi Omega.  The sorority was originally intended as a musical society. While this is no longer the purpose of the national organization, appreciation of the arts is still a large part of our heritage and tradition.

From the original seven founding members, the organization has grown drastically. There are now over 130 collegiate chapters nationwide.

Alpha Chi Omega came to the Brown University campus in May of 1979.
