Recruitment Frequently Asked Questions
When is Formal Recruitment?
Formal Recruitment will begin on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 and will culminate with Bid Day on Monday, February 9, 2015.
How do I sign up for Formal Recruitment?
Brown University’s Panhellenic Council will soon set up a website, through which you can sign up to attend Formal Recruitment. You will have to attend at least one event, though I recommend attending as many as possible to meet all the sisters!
How does Formal Recruitment work?
For the first round, you will attend parties at every house. Everyy potential new member (PNM) recieved a schedule for when they will go to each house, and they must attend all three. For the second night, each PNM will recieve a schedule to attend any house to which she recieves an invitation, and again, must attend all of them. The third event will be Preference Night, to which you will receive an invitation if we think you would be a great Alpha Chi! You can get preference invitations to up to two houses. That evening, you will rank your your preferences of sororities, and if you choose us, you become a new member! Bid Day is the celebration for you and your fellow new members.
Does Alpha Chi Omega haze their new members?
No, we do not haze anybody. We want to love and support each and every new member in her journey to becoming an official Alpha Chi Omega sister.
I’ve heard about Informal Recruitment. How is that different from Formal Recruitment?
Our Informal Recruitment occurs in the fall semester for second years, transfer students, and other upperclassmen. First-years are more than welcome to attend any event (with the exception of Preference Night) to meet sisters before Formal Recruitment begins. Second years, transfer students, and other upperclassmen can join Alpha Chi in the fall without having to attend Formal Recruitment and can reap the benefits of being a sister early in the academic year!
Who can I contact for more information?
Feel free to contact VP Recruitment, Vivian Ojeda. She will be more than happy to clarify any questions or concerns!
